FOUNDATIONS OF TEACHER EDUCATION IN CALL
The scope of CALL education
According to Hubbard & Levy (2006), together with the growing influence of technology, the need to prepare teachers to use the sort of technological aids for language teaching and learning has been increasing comparatively.
It includes:
- The production of training materials for classroom teachers.
- Frameworks that link CALL practice to particular approaches.
- The growing influence of technology in language teaching and learning.
- The increasing use of online collaborative learning techniques.
- Learning objectives for specific role combinations.
The state of CALL teacher education.
The concept of teacher education in CALL involves equipping educators with the knowledge and skills to leverage technology in language instruction. This includes understanding how to select and integrate appropriate software, online resources, and digital platforms to enhance language learning experiences. Teachers receive training on utilizing technology to facilitate communication, promote language practice, provide feedback, and create engaging and interactive learning activities.
Teacher education in CALL also encompasses familiarizing educators with the pedagogical principles and best practices associated with technology integration in language teaching. Teachers learn how to effectively incorporate digital tools into their lesson planning, classroom management, assessment, and overall instructional strategies.
